Meet Curtis Sok

I am a first-generation American from South Korea. When my father brought our family to the United States, he taught us two enduring lessons: if you work hard consistently with integrity, you will earn respect and better opportunities; and you must take chances and pursue those opportunities. These principles have guided my life and career.

After college,  I worked as a sales rep for IBM and as a marketing manager for a small garment manufacturer in Los Angeles. During that time, I witnessed the devastating impact of the Los Angeles Riot on small business owners—many of them immigrants who saw their livelihoods destroyed in Koreatown. I organized armed citizen security to help protect our businesses in the garment district when the LAPD failed to protect its citizens.  This shaped my firm belief in the Second Amendment right to bear arms.

I also saw hardworking families struggling not only to rebuild their businesses on a thin margin and excessive  taxes, but also to navigate a justice system they did not fully understand. That experience was the motivation to become an attorney. It strengthened my belief that the justice system must be equally accessible and fair, and respectful to every person regardless of their background.

In my first year of law school, the dean reminded us that the cases we handle are not about us—they are about clients who entrust us with their freedom, families, and livelihoods.

He asked: “Are you qualified to carry that duty faithfully?”

That challenge shaped my career and my commitment to the law.

For over 27 years, I have defended the constitutional rights of people who could not afford a lawyer. I believe everyone must be equally protected under the law and held to the same standard. I have tried more than ninety jury trials, most involving serious and complex felonies, gaining deep respect for the rule of law, a strong commitment to public safety, and compassion for victims.

A judge must seek the truth, apply the law faithfully, treat every person with dignity, and ensure justice is free from bias.
I am committed to serving Fresno County as a Superior Court judge grounded in fairness, integrity, and equal justice for all.
